Multiresolution Based Pattern Recognition Approach for Condition Monitoring of Switchgear

A new multiresolution based pattern recognition approach is proposed for fault diagnosis of distribution switchgear. The wavelet transform is used to extract the key features from the vibration spectra following circuit breaker operation. These features are then used to plot a 2-D diagram or condition map. This map displays clearly the actual condition of the circuit breaker and it can also be used to compare a faulty circuit breaker with a healthy unit. The new method is more reliable than Fourier based condition map analysis.
